Rhythm's Top Ten of 2007

Heads scratched, pencils sharpened, arguments resolved: here is Rhythm Online's (by no means definitive) list of 2007's top releases. These are the albums (or compilations, or EPs) that soundtracked *our* year. 2007 was pretty fine - here's wishing you all a great 2008 too.

Gigs!

Miss Pain played Cambridge's coolest electrodisco night Ban This Filth! earlier this month. They were great! Here is what they looked like (we particularly like the feathered arms on their costumes):










Next we saw local promoter Green Mind's biggest ever gig (well done Simon!) at the Corn Exchange. Openers Ra Ra Riot were blanded-out a little by their use of strings, which didn't really add much, we thought, to their reasonably unexciting indie-ness.



Of the three band lineup The Kissaway Trail were the highlight, by a mile, with a gorgeous slightly less oddball (although equally intense and lush) take on Arcade Fire's territory. A wonderful band that we definitely want to catch again, perhaps headlining in a more intimate venue?



Editors headlined, completing their meteoric rise through the ranks of Cambridge venues (they first played the small back room of The Portland Arms, only a couple of years ago). We find them all too samey, and frankly a little oppressive after a while (and this was a long set), but they went down a total storm with the crowd:



Pretty much Nick Rhythm's favourite band at the moment is The Veils. He was, needless to say, delighted therefore that they played Cambridge's new Barfly venue last week, supporting Ed Harcourt. Their intensity of emotion, delivered in that amazing voice, didn't disappoint, once again:



Finally, earlier this week we greatly enjoyed a bit of Cambridge Post Rock (there's a lot of it about, at the moment) in the form of CRS. Intricate, loudquiet and proficient:
